Nobody has yet found the right solution for the increase in traffic jams on Maltese roads.

The most important thing that nobody is taking into consideration is the cost of land, which is calculated by the square metre.

The road licence (as it is called) should be charged according to the surface area occupied by the car and then including all other changes.

One should set a price on the smallest car and then the price will increase every 10 centimetres according to the manufacturer’s official length. This will make people buy smaller cars.

Having caught a bus from the Valletta terminus many times, I would like to express my views.

It is a nightmare walking from City Gate to the far end of the ditch during the day in the summer heat.

Imagine an old person or a mother with children walking down there and then waiting for more than half an hour in the sun without practically any shelter.

In winter, it is another story when it is raining and how about waiting under the trees during a lightning storm?

Why not build two modern bus shelters on either side outside City Gate and get rid of those Third World pigeonhole shops and stalls?

On one side will be the arrival terminus, which could have been a good site for the open air market.

On the other side the departure station, fully air conditioned with electronic boards displaying the departures and gate number, MPT offices/information, shops and cafeteria.

Buses (not people) will be parked down the ditch and called when they are due.

Everybody will be happy waiting in comfort and without any discrimination between those boarding at the first stage and those who have to walk to the far end of the ditch.
