Malta will strive for more concrete results to be achieved in the fight against terrorism during its EU presidency next year, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said.

Mr Abela was addressing a press conference at the end of a meeting for EU ministers who belong to the Party of European Socialists and who represent their countries in the Council of the EU’s General Affairs.

The minister spoke about the need for closer cooperation between the EU member states’ security and intelligence personnel. In the fight against terrorism - be it organised by terrorist groups or a lone wolf - we must not let ourselves be disheartened but should instead strengthen our unity as a European family and defend our common values, he said.

Malta assumes the EU presidency between January and June 2017.
