‘A Place Called Home’ is the theme of this year’sSliema Arts Festival happening between todayand Sunday.

Enjoying the expertise of former St James Cavalier director Christopher Gatt, this year’s festival is focusing on migration and is being held in support of MOAS – the Migrant Offshore Aid Station.

The festival aims to highlight the terrifying journey some people undergo as they flee their ravaged countries in search of a better future, a journey which at times ends tragically.

MOAS will be present with two interactive projects: The Gift by world-renowned Chilean-born artist Alfredo Jaar and The Journey, which will see participants interact with MOAS on a mapping project.

Over 100 artists are taking part in this year’s festival held along the promenade and beaches of Sliema, from Independence Gardens to Fond Ghadir.

A theatre stage within the gardens is hosting a number of theatre acts, dances, puppet shows and live rapping. There are also several music areas set up, including the Bay Stage for local upcoming bands and acoustic sets, an alternative rock stage, and Surfer’s Paradise on the beach between the tower and Surfside, which is in the hands of Duncan F and Alex Thomson.

Tomorrow, Perpendicular will be hosting an early evening party at Surfside beach close to Fond Ghadir.

The promenade will also offer a food and drink court as well as an artisan market, with over 35 varied stalls with handcrafted works.

Patrons can make use of a specially set-up park and ride service being offered at €2 from the Tigné Point car park from today until Sunday, from 8pm to 1am.
