A Zimbabwean court has dismissed charges against a protest leader accused of trying to overthrow the government.

Evan Mawarire was accused of trying to overthrow the government by calling for protests against President Robert Mugabe's government.

The Baptist minister's internet campaign tapped into mounting anger over corruption and high unemployment, sparking Zimbabwe's biggest demonstrations in a decade.

The court dismissed the case as prosecutors presented different charges from those read out to Mawarire when he was arrested.

Last month, he posted a video online that went viral, venting anger about the state of the country and urging people to hold the government to account.

Zimbabwe was once one of Africa's most promising countries.

Now it's trapped in an economic crisis with a reputation for human rights abuses.
