A report has revealed that French President Francois Hollande's hairdresser is paid over $10,000 a month.

Investigative newspaper Le Canard Enchaine's report shocked many on the streets of Paris.

"It's crazy, 9,800 euros for a haircut, just to cut your hair, it's atrocious, it's shameful, especially for his haircut! Frankly it's atrocious," a resident said.

Many hair stylists also admit they're envious.

The government says Hollande's hairdresser is paid that much because he had to abandon his salon and is on call 24 hours a day.

Social media is buzzing with the story and many on Twitter have suggested novel haircuts.

The revelation is unlikely to boost Hollande's popularity, especially since the Socialist leader campaigned on the promise that he would be Mr Normal.
