Since the year 2000, Masquerade has organised summer workshops in various aspects of the performing arts.

This summer, the company will be offering a one-week intensive musical theatre training experience led by industry professionals currently working on musicals in the West End.

During the five-day course, students will participate in workshops and work on the musical Bugsy Malone. They will be learning songs, dances and scenes from the musical and then perform a condensed version of the show to family and friends at Masquerade’s own theatre space, Blue Box (opposite Junior College). This workshop will give young people with a passion for performing the opportunity to work with Phil Bateman, who was the musical director on Bugsy Malone, staged recently in the West End, and choreographer Lizzi Gee.

All actors will audition on day one, be cast in specific roles, learn songs and choreography, perfect their parts over the week, sort costumes and have a public performance.

This workshop is highly recommended for young actors ready to grow in their performance skills and to commit to an intensive production process. Workshops are open to participants from age seven to 16, to be run as two separate groups 7-12 years and 13-16 years.

No experience is necessary.

Classes will run between Saturday, July 23, and Friday, July 29, on Monday and Thursday between 9am and 3.30pm, and Friday, July 29, between 9am and 7pm, with show performances at 7.30pm.
