Matt Damon has said he would consider swapping the Bourne franchise for the superhero world of Marvel or DC if friend Ben Affleck directed him.

Affleck has just starred as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Damon laughed at the idea he could play sidekick Robin to Affleck’s Batman.

But he admitted that he would say yes to a superhero role if Affleck got behind the camera.

Speaking at the premiere of Jason Bourne, he said: “I’d consider anything with the right director, but I can’t imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they’re all taken at this moment.”

He continued: “If he [Affleck] was directing me, I’d jump on it in. The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie he gives himself the best role in it, so until he’s willing to give up the best role to one of his friends we’re not going to get on with it.”

His co-star Julia Stiles backed Damon as director material himself, saying she would love to work with him taking the other side of the camera.

Damon distanced himself from the suggestion he could pick up the 007 franchise from previous director Sam Mendes.

“I don’t think anyone from outside the UK should touch that,” he said.

He confessed that the tough stunts required for Bourne had already taken their toll on his 45-year-old body.

Jason Bourne is officially released on July 27.
