I cannot understand how some people in Malta have taken upon themselves the right to blame the British people and their Prime Minister for voting to leave the European Union. Some of them seem to have been waiting for this moment to express their hatred. We had voted to join the EU and I am proud to have been one of them. Many things have changed since and Europe has gone too far.

The EU should ask itself whether it is going in the right direction. That must happen if there are not to be any more exits. I think it will be a disaster if Malta were to leave. But Britain is different. Europe could do without Britain but, in my opinion, Britain will also do without Europe.

The British people had for long had enough of the EU. They were witnessing the transformation of the EU into a federal State with France and Germany at the head. Migration was the straw that broke the camel’s back. As for David Cameron, he knew all this. He could have carried on with business as usual but, instead, he promised a referendum to sort things out. What is wrong with that? I cannot fail to mention the opportunistic methods of the Scots. If my memory serves me right, they voted in a referendum on whether Scotland should remain part of the UK.

They decided to remain but now there is a woman leader who is taking this opportunity to break off the UK. When the Berlin Wall fell, the Germans on the other side did not want to form another nation but went straight to join the mother country. That is what I call patriotism not opportunism.

I appeal the Scots do the same, to make Great Britain great again. If Scotland breaks off the UK it amounts to less than a third of a country taking order from Brussels.
