Mtarfa Scouts are the proud owners of a brand new home, after their new headquarters were officially opened in a ceremony held on Sunday.

The celebrations started with a mass held at the Mtarfa parish church followed by a short parade to the new headquarters, accompanied by the Dingli Scout Group band.

The headquarters was officially opened by a few members by pulling a number of cords attached to the main entrance. Group Scout Leader Emanuel Grech and Chief Scout George Cassar later unveiled a commemorative plaque situated under the main flag pole.

Four years have passed since Mtarfa Scouts managed to secure the HQ location, following eight months of negotiations with the Housing Authority. Group Scout Leader Emanuel Grech recalled having to jump over walls and climb mounds of garbage to access the site initially.

The dump site is now gone, and in its place scouts have a location where the group can meet.

After the ceremony guests were invited to view a photographic exhibition and a video presentation of the refurbishment of the new headquarters. Guests were also invited for a small reception and the cutting of fantastic cake made by one of the Group’s supporters.
