I am not at all surprised that people think the age of chivalry is over and the fear of being called a sexist is one of the main reasons for this. Men are too afraid to carry out acts of politeness and respect for women in public.

There was a time when women used to revel in being treated well but strangely enough many of them see this almost as an insult.  Proof of this came the last time I held a door open for a woman, who simply sneered at me as though to tell me “I do not need your help”.

What is the world coming to? I am a senior citizen and I still open doors for everybody, men and women. How can that be sexist?  And I find that most people do the same. As my father used to say, “Good manners cost nothing”.

Do people really think that giving up your seat on a bus or holding open a door for a woman is outdated?
