A 20-year-old Briton was slapped with a €4,000 fined and handed a six-month jail term suspended for two years after admitting to assaulting a number of police officers in Paceville.

Harvey Harry Hawkins who was charged before Magistrate Francesco Depasquale apologised for his behaviour and promised not to commit such acts in the future. The incident happened this morning around 3am in St George's Road.

The defendant also admitted to causing slight bodily harm on an officer, disturbing public peace and being drunk.

The court ordered him to pay the fine by Monday failing which he would not be allowed to go back to the UK.

Police inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted while lawyer Benjamin Valenzia was legal aid for the accused.
