The Żejtun local council will tomorrow be organising a musico-literary night dedicated to Frans Baldacchino (il-Budaj) at Ġnien l-Għannejja Żwieten (known as St Gregory’s Gardens) from 7.30pm onwards.

During this activity, the 10-year anniversary from his death will be commemorated.

Baldacchino passed away in 2006 at the age of 63. Besides the folk singing, he was also a naive artist who in 1995 published the book Imrieżaq ta’ Moħħi and in 2004 Lejn l-Art u s-Sema.

He also won l-Għanja tal-Poplu in 2001 with Priscilla Psaila with the song Tisimgħu Tissaħħar.

Besides the tribute to Baldacchino, there will also be għana (folk singing) from Żeppi Spagnol, literature readings from poems to Żejtun dialect, a wine competition and traditional Maltese music.

Registrations for those interested in taking part in the wine competition is free of charge. They will be accepted until tomorrow.

There are three categories: red, white and fruit wine. Participants finishing in the first three places from each category will be given a trophy, and the overall winner will be given a special trophy. Everyone is invited to attend. There will be ample parking space available.
