Poland midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak has signed a five-year contract with Paris St Germain, the French champions said in a statement yesterday.

The 26-year-old Krychowiak, a member of the Poland team who were eliminated by Portugal in the quarter-finals of the European Championship in France.

He joins PSG from Spanish side Sevilla, where he played under the guidance of Unai Emery who has now been appointed PSG coach.

Paris SG did not disclose the transfer fee, which was expected to reach around €25 million, according to Polish and Spanish media, yesterday.

Stones could cost City £50m – BBC

Manchester City would have to fork out £50m to lure Everton defender John Stones to their fold this summer, BBC said.

Talks have yet to take place, but the asking price would make Stones, 22, Britain’s most expensive defender.

New City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to make the England man his next high-profile transfer of the summer after Ilkay Gundogan and Nolito.

Stones was at the centre of a transfer battle last summer when Everton rejected a succession of bids rising up to almost £40m from Chelsea.

Milan join hunt for Poland’s Zielinski

Milan are looking to strengthen their midfield department with the signing of Piotr Zielinski from Udinese, reports said.

Liverpool had their bid for the Pole turned down but Napoli tendered an offer – around €11m.

Udinese are not rushing as club director of sport Nereo Bonato said Milan were interested even though no bid was placed.

“Milan are interested, but aside from making enquiries they have not made any further steps forward,” Bonato said.

“We also have a formal agreement with Napoli but the player still has to agree personal terms.”

Asano for Gunners

Arsenal have signed Japan forward Takuma Asano from J-League side Sanfrecce Hiro-shima, subject to the completion of a medical.

The 21-year-old has won five caps for Japan since making his debut in August 2015 and is set to take part in the Rio Olympics next month.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger told the club’s official website: “Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future.

“He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”

Takuma signed for Sanfrecce Hiroshima as an 18-year-old in January 2013 and went on to make 56 appearances, scoring 11 goals.

Arteta to take up City coaching role

Mikel Arteta has left Arsenal to join Manchester City in a coaching role under new boss Pep Guardiola.

The 34-year-old also confirmed his retirement from playing after a five-year stint with the Gunners, during which time he won two FA Cups.

The former Everton and Rangers midfielder, who started his career at Barcelona, has been a rumoured target of Guardiola since the Spaniard’s appointment as City boss in February.

“Following recent media speculation surrounding my future I can confirm that I will be leaving Arsenal and retiring from playing to take up a coaching position at Manchester City,” Arteta said.

Leicester City sign midfielder Mendy

Leicester City have signed former France Under-21 midfielder Nampalys Mendy from Nice on a four-year deal.

The 24-year-old helped Nice secure a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season and becomes the Foxes’ third signing of the summer for an undisclosed fee.

The Premier League champions have already welcomed Ron-Robert Zieler and Luis Hernandez to the club and Mendy is looking forward to joining the ranks.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Mendy said: “I am very happy to come to Leicester City.

“The team have just enjoyed a great season and it’s excellent to be here.”

Joao Pedro extends stay at Cagliari

Cagliari were boosted by the news yesterday that midfielder Joao Pedro, so influential in the side’s promotion to Serie A, has decided to extend his contract.

Cagliari said that Pedro, 24, will be staying at the club until the summer of 2020 after agreeing terms on a new deal.

Last season, the Brazilian helped Cagliari to a top-two position in Serie B after scoring 13 goals in 38 games.

Able to play behind the forward line or in a more attacking role when needed, Pedro, who has been at Cagliari since 2014, also contributed with several assists in 2015-16.
