Grammy award winner and composer Arvo Pärt will be headlining the 11th edition of the Malta International Arts festival.

The Estonian composer, whose music is partly inspired by Gregorian chants, will be performing during a very special event taking place on July 14, 2016 from 7.30pm to 9pm at the Co-Cathedral of St John.

Mr Pärt was the world's most performed living performer for the fifth year running in 2015, according to classical event database Bachtrack.

The festival will take place between July 8-18 and will include international and local talents sharing their artwork in the streets of Valletta.

This year the festival is proposing a varied programme with several types of art from dancing to theatre but also music, installations, film, literature, poetry, site-specific work and more.

One of the strongest statements throughout this festival is our creative and brave ‘no boundaries’ approach in terms of conceptual art across all the art forms we are representing, and taking the risk of jumping into the unknown; as well as the idea of building new partnerships and creating some unique things through them, and the presentation of newly commissioned works.- Festival Artistic Director Michelle Castelletti

The festival is also taking applications from young talents to perform during the event. It is a platform for young local talents to exhibit their work at an international level. Applications are to be sent at the Young Performers Platform on the Malta International Arts festival website.
