St Joseph’s Blata L-Bajda Primary Grade 5s won the Together against Bullying school competition organised by Victim Support Malta.

The aim of the competition was to encourage children to work together to produce a work of art on the topic of bullying.

Out of the numerous entries received, St Joseph’s submission was the most creative, original, effective and in line with the campaign.

During school assembly, attended by VSM’s Outreach and PR Officer, the girls presented their work in front of the whole school.

“We were introduced to the title of the project by Ms Becky and we all sketched our ideas. We chose the best ideas from the two classes and then discussed one final picture. Finally, the themes we presented were gossiping, stalking, cyber bullying and violence. The hands which appear below the victim are a symbol of us supporting the victim and we, the two Grade 5 classes, signed our names on them,” the students said.

According to Ms Becky, despite the challenge of getting two classes to cooperate peacefully, the girls happily joined forces, brainstormed together, and came up with a work of art bearing an innovative and meaningful message.

“I think the project was a success because all 52 girls worked in such harmony that they really united and understood more how wrong bullying is. It was a memorable project for us all,” she said.

The girls were presented with cinema and bowling tickets for their endeavour.
