The 2016/2017 Mcast Prospectus contains 16 new courses. It includes detailed information about 172 full-time courses offered at Mcast’s Foundation, Technical and University Colleges ranging from introductory certificate courses, degree programmes to Master’s programmes, being offered for the first time this year.

Mcast, which offers programmes at MQF/EQF Levels 1, 2 and 3, is this year introducing the Certificate in Hairdressing, Beauty and Well-Being, the Certificate in the Creative Arts, the Certificate in Robotics and an innovative course with a very different structure entitled Skills Kit.

Skills Kit is an introductory level programme intended for students who prefer to study at their own pace and explore different vocational areas. It is made up of a number of Skills Kits (small bite-size topics) at MQF/EQF Level 1 and covers various vocational areas as well as personal and employability skills.

The programme provides students with the possibility to choose the number of Skills Kits to study over a period of time. It also gives the students the opportunity to choose their own combination of Skills Kits. The Skills Kits include various topics such as art, hairdressing, beauty, basic web design, caring for others, animal care, sport, installation of low voltage devices and cultures.

Students successfully completing 30 Skills Kits obtain the Introductory Skills Certificate. Students are also eligible to progress to Level 2 if they successfully complete at least 30 Skills Kits, including six skills kits from employability skills, six from personal skills and three skills kits which target English, Maltese and Maths.

The Technical College, which provides programmes of study at MQF/EQF Level 4 in close collaboration with industry, is introducing three new courses, including the Advanced Diploma in Cultural Heritage, which is designed to address skills shortages in the heritage sector, the Advanced Diploma in Food Technology, which is a multidisciplinary programme that includes topics on food analysis, product manufacturing, food safety, cost accounting and product design and the Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts, which is a two-year programme that provides students with an understanding of various performing arts subjects at an advanced level.

The University College, which caters for higher education programmes and vocational degrees is introducing nine new programmes, including two Master’s degree programmes at Level MQF/EQF Level 7 for the first time. The new courses on offer are Higher Diploma for Accounting Technicians, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Fish Management, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Journalism, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Business Analytics, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Financial Services Management, Higher Diploma in Exercise for Health, Higher Diploma in Facilitating Inclusive Education, Master of Business Administration (MBA) for the Small Business and Masters in Business Informatics in collaboration with with Haaga-Helia – University of Applied Sciences.

Prospective students, particularly young individuals who have just completed secondary (Form 5) or post-secondary (Sixth Form) education, are invited to collect their copy of the 2016/2017 Full-Time Courses Prospectus and the application form from the Mcast main campus in Paola, from the Mcast institutes in Mosta, Naxxar, Qormi and Kalkara, from the Mcast Gozo Campus in Għajnsielem and from all council offices.

The college will also be launching the Interactive Prospectus, a dynamic tool to help current and prospective students explore the college’s full-time courses starting in October.

The Interactive Prospectus is based on the 2016/2017 full-time courses prospectus and also includes additional information about each course as well as various interactive features. Prospective students will be able to go through the list of courses and compare their entry requirements, descriptions, units as well as the learning outcomes and career opportunities on offer.
