A police sergeant and a constable were injured when they intervened to stop an argument in Cospicua this evening.
The sergeant was grievously injured, the constable slightly.
The police said the incident happened at the area known as the St Paul’s Bastion just before 5pm.
Officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit went on site to find that the situation had calmed down but it erupted again when the officers were there.
The argument involved three people, aged 18, 24 and 29, all from Cospicua.
They fell on the sergeant when he intervened.
The three people have been arrested.
