Hibs chances of progressing to the second qualifying round of the Europa League look dim following a 3-0 defeat to Sparta Trnava yesterday in Slovakia.
The Paolites plan was to limit the damage with the aim of staying in contention ahead of next week’s second leg.
But Sparta had different ideas though as they scored three goals without reply that put them firmly in command of the tie.
Sparta broke the deadlock after seven minutes. Robert Tambe headed home after anticipating Justin Haber from a corner.
On 21 minutes, Hibs forward Juan Varea ran to a through ball by Lima but he hit over the bar.
The hosts doubled the lead past the half hour mark. Ivan Schranz floated a cross into the path of Martin Mikovic whose first-time drive flew into the net.
Hibs were rarely in the game in the second half but Trnava had to wait until seven minutes from time, to seal the win.
Tambe’s first effort was blocked but the striker’s ensuing shot flew into the top corner.
