Rugby Union: Australian Amy Perrett is set to become the first woman assistant referee in Super Rugby history when she officiates in the game between Melbourne Rebels and South Africa’s Stormers on Saturday. Perrett, a full-time referee, officiated in the women’s Rugby World Cup final and was selected as one of Australia’s two representatives for the Rio Olympic Games in August. Perrett came through the ranks of Australian Rugby Referees Pathways programme, and will assist main referee Angus Gardner during the game in Melbourne.

Swimming: South Korea’s Park Tae-hwan has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to challenge a ruling which currently prohibits him from competing at the Rio Olympics despite completing an anti-doping suspension. The 26-year-old won Olympic gold in the 400 metres freestyle in 2008 and has a further three silver medals from Beijing and London 2012. Park served an 18-month suspension after testing positive for testosterone and returned to competition on March 2. But Korean Sport and Olympic Committee regulations prevent an athlete from competing for the national team for a further three years, once the period of ineligibility has been completed.

Golf: Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie will play at the British Open for the first time in six years after coming through final qualifying to claim a place in next month’s championship at Royal Troon. On Tuesday, the 53-year-old shot a five-under-par aggregate after 36 holes at Gailes Links to take the final spot after an agonising two-hour wait as he qualified with Swede Oskar Arvidsson, ranked a lowly 1,418, and 23-year-old Spaniard Scott Fernandez. Montgomerie is a member at Royal Troon, where his father James was secretary, and will play at the Open for the first time since his 21st consecutive appearance in 2010.
