One of the stars of The Walking Dead says he hopes the UK’s decision to leave the European Union does not release a “zombie horde” on the country. Michael Traynor joined some of his cast-mates from the popular horror series at Universal Studios Hollywood for the unveiling of a new attraction based on the TV show.

Speaking on the red carpet, the American actor jokingly asked whether a “subset of Article 50” was to “release the zombie horde” on the UK.

“You guys have some real questions and decisions to make as a country. I hope running from the zombie horde isn’t it,” he told the Press Association.

“I’ve been out in London late at night and some of the lads drinking too much can be a bit of a zombie horde walking towards you, but they all seem pretty harmless in the end.”

The Walking Dead is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies and stars British actor Andrew Lincoln in the lead role of sheriff deputy Rick Grimes.

Traynor, who played Nicholas in the series, said he hoped the theme park attraction captured the “eerie sense” of the show, which has remained popular because it focuses on “survival”.

“We’re all pretty cushy and comfortable,” Traynor said. “We have our couches, we have our supermarkets, we have our food.

“When you’re finally questioned with the idea – can you survive some threat that is bigger and greater than you?

“It’s very compelling.

The Walking Dead attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood opens to the public on Monday.
