It was just a coincidence that my brother, Angelo, aged 88 years – one of four brothers – passed away to a better world on June 12, exactly 50 years after my late eldest brother, Louis, emigrated to Canada.

The funeral was a sad parting for those who saw him being transferred a couple of times from Mater Dei Hospital to Karin Grech Rehabilitation Hospital.

He studied at the Archbishop’s Seminary and Flores College, now St Albert College, and worked as meteorological assistant for 39 years.

On his retirement, he founded and was director of the Pope John XXIII International Movement of Prayer. This meant that Malta was united in prayer with countries round the world, also in Latin America, such as Peru, Brazil and Argentina. Prayers for peace in the world and for new evangelisation began to be held on the third Wednesday of the month from 5 to 9pm.

A bachelor of arts in religious studies, he held certificates in the foundation course in diplomacy and studied theology for two years at St Thomas College for laymen of the Dominican Fathers in Malta. He was executive council member of the Malta European Movement for a long number of years.

He was awarded the title of honorary doctor in humanitarian sciences by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences(Armenian branch).

Last but not least, Angelo was a skilful gardener and he spent a lot of time tending his plot at Għargħur with great love and devotion.

As can be seen from the above tribute, Angelo lived his life to the full and always made the best of his time. We are sure that the Lord received him with open arms and, though he will be sorely missed by his family, we are all aware that he is happy in the House of the Father.
