Untimely death: The founder of the supporters club of the Belgian national team died of a heart attack after the country’s crushing 4-0 victory over Hungary at Euro 2016 on Sunday. Erik Reynaerts, 50, had been in Toulouse where Belgium was playing Hungary in the last 16 and suffered a cardiac arrest after the match. He died yesterday. Reynaerts had set up the official supporters club of the Belgian Red Devils in 2012.

Iordanescu: Romania coach Anghel Iordanescu is leaving his post, the domestic football federation’s president said. Razvan Burleanu said the FRF had agreed with Iordanescu to part ways after Romania’s failure to make it past the group stages at Euro 2016. They finished bottom in Group A after losing to hosts France and Albania, and drawing with Switzerland. Burleanu said he will announce Iordanescu’s successor at the end of the European Championship.

De Roon: Marten de Roon is set to leave Atalanta to join Middlesbrough in a transfer deal reportedly worth €12m. De Roon, 25, made 36 appearances for Atalanta in Serie A last season. His form attracted the interest of Napoli, but reports in Italy yesterday said the Dutchman will instead move to the Premier League newcomers. De Roon is set to sign on a four-year contract which would almost double the wage he gets with Atalanta.

Forest coach: Nottingham Forest have appointed Philippe Montanier as their new head coach. The 51-year-old Frenchman replaces Dougie Freedman, who was sacked in March after 13 months in charge of the Championship club. The former Stade Rennes and Real Sociedad manager arrives at The City Ground on a two-year deal following a playing career which saw him make over 300 appearances for clubs including Toulouse, Nantes and St Etienne.
