Southampton: Southampton are holding talks with former Monaco and Lyon manager Claude Puel with a view to him taking over from Ronald Koeman, Sky Sport reported yesterday. The 54-year-old Frenchman, who spent his 17-year playing career with Monaco, is available after calling time on his four-season spell as Nice manager earlier this summer. Puel guided Monaco to the Ligue 1 title in 2000 before moving on to Lille where he enjoyed a successful six years as manager.

Bruma: Wolfsburg have signed PSV Eindhoven centre-back Jeffrey Bruma on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old former Chelsea defender joined PSV in 2013 and went on to make 113 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch club. During his time in Eindhoven, Bruma won two Eredivisie titles, including the season just gone when Ajax were pipped to top spot.

Lampard: Frank Lampard scored his second goal in as many games to help New York City FC to a 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders. Lampard chested home R.J. Allen’s cross to give NYCFC the lead before the break and Ronald Matarrita wrapped it up late on.

Hamsik: Marek Hamsik rejected a move to Bayern Munich because he said he’s treated “like a God at Napoli”. “I always tried to bring him (Hamsik) to Germany, especially to Bayern Munich, but he told me he’s happy at Napoli and is treated like a God there,” Peter Hammer, an agent who works with many Slovak players in the Bundesliga, told German newspaper TZ.

Rostov: Rostov coach Kurban Berdyev has ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year deal to stay with the Russian club. His old contract would have expired at the end of June.

Friendly match: Birkirkara vs Hibernians 2-2.
