Defender Mike van der Hoorn will travel to Wales this week to settle personal terms with Swansea City after the club agreed a €2.5million transfer fee with Ajax, the player told Dutch media yesterday.

Van der Hoorn said he would conduct his own negotiations over salary and bonuses after agreement between the two clubs was reached.

He told reporters he was delighted with the chance to move to the Premier League, adding: “Swansea are a great club.”

O’Neill rues ‘cruel’ Euro 2016 exit

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill was left to rue a “cruel” exit from Euro 2016 after an own goal ended his side’s journey.

O’Neill’s side had already defied the odds to line up in an all-British last 16 clash but were good value throughout the narrowest of 1-0 defeats, edging the play for extended periods without creating clear-cut chances.

“I felt it was a very tight game. It’s just a very, very cruel way to lose the game,” he said.

“We didn’t deserve to lose the game... certainly with that nature (of goal).

“Not many people gave us any chance of doing anything in the tournament but we came within a whisker of getting to the last eight.”

Brexit will damage EPL – Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas has described the United Kingdom leaving the European Union as “a mistake” that will “create many complications.”

The Spain international believes it will not only affect the economy and everyday life in England but also have a major effect on football and the ability to sign players.

Fabregas said: “It’s a very disappointing decision and I think very negative for many people.

“I think it’s damaging for the Premier League. It’ll be harder to sign players, the salaries will change if the pound gets close to the euro,” he said.

“It’s a decision that will create many complications not just in football, but the daily lives and future of all people.”

Swiss striker Embolo signs for Schalke

Schalke have signed Switzerland forward Breel Embolo from FC Basel on a five-year contract.

The 19-year-old has attracted plenty of interest from across Europe but the Bundesliga side have made their move after his, and Switzerland’s, elimination from Euro 2016.

Embolo, who made four appearances in France, was part of the Swiss squad which was beaten on penalties at the last-16 stage by Poland on Saturday.

Embolo has made a total of 90 appearances for FC Basel in all competitions since making his professional debut in March 2014.

Subotic ready to leave Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic has announced he is looking to leave the Bundesliga club this summer.

Commenting on his Facebook page, the Serbia international wrote that he intends to leave the club he has been associated with for eight years but did not provide any details on a future move.

Subotic, 27, wrote: “I am now at the best age for a footballer and naturally want to use this time to bring me and my team forward every day and to have the feeling of being needed on the pitch.

“I don’t want to earn my money sat on the bench, but to be an active part of a story as I was until last year. I hope you can understand.”

I have nothing to prove, says Morata

Alvaro Morata said he has nothing to prove to Real Madrid or coach Zinedine Zidane upon his return to the Bernabeu.

Real activated a buy-back clause in the striker’s contract to re-sign him two years after he left for Juventus, but there are reports the Spain international could be sold with several Premier League sides interested.

Morata said: “I’ve got nothing to prove. I’m not a Castilla (Real Madrid’s second team) player anymore. Madrid will decide if I am able or not. If not, I’ll have to take another decision.

“All I want is to be just another member of the squad and fight for a place in the side. My only intention is to be happy and be in a place where I feel wanted.”

Cristante to join Pescara on loan

Benfica midfielder Bryan Cristante is set to undergo a medical with newly-promoted Pescara today.

The Italy Under-21 international spent the last six months on loan at Palermo, but managed only four Serie A appearances.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Cristante will make a number of medical tests with the newly-promoted club today before finalising the deal.

For Cristante, this will be another loan spell after coming through the Milan youth academy.
