The School of Invention recently launched a 20-hour course at St Francis School, Cospicua, aimed to inspire its students to generate tourism-related ideas and inventions and to help them become the tourism innovators of tomorrow. The school is supported by Malta International Airport and is being held in collaboration with the Microsoft Innovation Centre.
Since the School of Invention was launched earlier this year over 200 students have taken part in taster sessions where they were exposed to the world of creative thinking, the generation of ideas and working in teams to design their ideas.
The course gives participants the necessary skills to transform their imagination into something concrete that they can see and feel. This is done through interactive sessions and hands-on workshops in creative thinking, communications, science and technology and ICT.
The school places a lot of emphasis on fostering children’s creative capital. In fact, 80 per cent of the course focuses on learning by doing and hands-on work by students and only 20 per cent is devoted to tuition.
The school is run by Creolabs, a company that provides training in creative thinking, invention and innovation. The idea behind it is to channel children’s innate ability to think and act in a creative manner and focus it to create something new.
