• To avoid unpleasant surprises consumers are advised to request a quote or an estimate before hiring someone to do a job.

• Once a quote is accepted and the booking of a service confirmed, the trader cannot charge more than the agreed price.

• When consumers are only given an estimate because the exact price cannot be accurately calculated, consumers should inform the trader to contact them if the costs will turn out to be higher than the estimate.

• Consumers must ensure that they are given a receipt for any payment made which includes details of the work done.

• Consumers are to complain immediately if they are not satisfied with the job done.
