Benoît Jacquot’s Royal Opera production of Jules Massenet’s tragic opera Werther will be relayed live to cinemas around the world, including Malta, on Monday.

Based on Wolfgang von Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Young Werther, Massenet’s opera tells the story of the poet Werther’s hopeless love for Charlotte, who is committed to another man.

The Royal Opera’s heartbreaking Werther is brought to life through music full of lyrical beauty, passion and emotional fervour. Conducted by Antonio Pappano, the production stars two of opera’s most in demand talents. Italian tenor Vittorio Grigòlo will be performing Werther, and Joyce DiDonato Charlotte.

Known for his illustrious career in French cinema, Jacquot’s production is one of the world’s leading operas. Performed in the iconic Covent Garden theatre, it will undoubtedly be an outstanding performance of traditional opera.

Werther will be broadcast live at Eden Cinemas on Monday at 8pm.

Tickets are available at the fraction of overseas prices. Each ticket is €18 per adult and €10 for children aged 16 and under. This will include a free glass of wine and complimentary parking at the Eden Car Park.

An encore performance will be held on July 3. Tickets for this show will be priced at €15 for adults and €10 for children under the age of 16. This will include free parking at the Eden Car Park.
