With reference to the item entitled ‘After Paqpaqli, where is health and safety reform?’, please be informed of the following.

In a reply to a question by the Times of Malta, it was stated that  a working group on health and safety in public activities was appointed following the report issued by Mark Gauci on the state of play in the area of public safety and after a public consultation.

Since then the working group has come out with its recommendations and public safety will be solely under the remit of the Civil Protection Department. Thus, the responsibility for public health and safety will now  be borne by one entity rather than having it spread across several different sectors as was the case so far.
