Islamic State group fighters have detained some 900 Kurds in the northern Syrian Province of Aleppo over the past three weeks.

The 900 civilians were detained near the IS-controlled town of Al-Bab, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Sterfan Darwish, spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces, a US-backed military alliance fighting IS, said the seizing of over 900 civilians was a vengeance for an SDF offensive on the Islamic State, also known as Daesh.

“Whenever Daesh is defeated, they retaliate against civilians,” Darwish said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, as well as Darwish, said that some of the detained people were forced to dig trenches in the IS-held areas, while others are imprisoned in detention centres.
