Have fast-food hybrids gone too far?

In 2012 American fast food brand Taco Bell launched Doritos Locos Tacos, a hybrid of Doritos nachos and Taco Bell’s signature tacos. Since the launch, Taco Bell sales have risen, according to Bloomberg.

Now, fast-food giant Burger King has their answer to the competition: Mac’n’Cheetos. The new item is a stick of deep-fried Mac’n’Cheese, covered with Cheetos breading.

“It’s quite unique,” Alex Macedo, president of North America at Burger King, told Bloomberg.

“We’re working on a few other menu items,” he continued.

The new item has gotten very mixed reviews. Tweets are divided between people dying to try the deep-fried stick of macaroni and cheese, and others who are calling for a boycott of the restaurants.

Mac’n’Cheetos, selling $2.49 for a packet of five, is available for a limited time in selected Burger King restaurants in the US, possibly making its nationwide debut soon. Will this hybrid make its way to Malta? Only time will tell.
