Hooded thieves robbed a gambling outlet in Victoria, Gozo yesterday evening, police said.

Police said the thieves entered the outlet on Triq Patri Manwel Magri at approximately 10pm yesterday evening and demanded that a female cashier hand over money. They were armed with a sharp instrument.

A 65-year-old male Victoria resident suffered light injuries after he tried to rush to the cashier's assistance. He was taken to Gozo General Hospital for treatment.

The cashier suffered from shock but was otherwise unharmed.

A magisterial inquiry is being led by magistrate Paul Coppini.
