A 50-year-old prostitute tried to seduce potential clients by posing as a pedestrian at a busy arterial junction.

She then jiggled her curvy body when the lights turned red in a bid to entice clients, a court heard this morning.

If successful she would then carry out her business in a nearby garage in Marsa, belonging to a 72-year-old man who would be waiting outside.

Both Carmen Zammit of Safi and garage owner Paul D’Amato denied the charges.

Inspector John Spiteri told Magistrate Neville Camilleri that the police had arraigned the woman under arrest following the issue of repeated warnings in the last six months, which she had ignored.

Although the police initially suspected that Mr D’Amato was her pimp, their suspicions turned out to be unfounded as he would only receive a small sum of money in return for renting her the garage.

The man was accused of not flagging the illegal activity going on his own property.

The defendants, who were charged separately, were both granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €4,000 and ordered not to venture outdoors between 7pm and 6am. The man was also ordered not to go to his garage or speak to the woman.

Lawyer Mark Mifsud Cutajar was legal aid for Mr D’Amato while lawyer Joe Sammut appeared for Ms Zammit.
