A jaguar featured at an Olympic torch ceremony in Manaus, Brazil was shot dead by a soldier shortly after the event.  

Brazil's army said 'Juma'  escaped from its handlers. Although it was tranquilized, it approached a soldier, who fired the fatal shot.

A yellow jaguar, Ginga, is the mascot of Brazil's Olympic team.

Animal rights groups have condemned the shooting.
