Champions Valletta, Hibernians, Birkirkara and Balzan, the four Maltese clubs taking part in the 2016/17 UEFA competitions, will discover their opponents this afternoon when the draws of the Champions League and Europa League first and second qualifying rounds are held in Nyon.

As one of the four seeded teams, Valletta can be drawn against B36 Torshavn, of Faroe Islands, Lincoln Red Imps, of Gibraltar, Armenia’s Alashkert and Tre Penne, of San Marino.

The other three sides in the first qualifying round draw of the Champions League, which gets underway at noon, are The New Saints (Wales), Flora Tallinn (Estonia) and Santa Coloma (Andorra).

The opening ties of the first qualifying round matches are scheduled for June 28/29 with the second legs a week later.

In the second qualifying round draw, the champions of the countries who enter the fray at this stage are joined by the four winners of the initial round.

Hibernians, runners-up to Valletta in the Premier League last season, Birkirkara and Balzan are among 96 clubs involved in the Europa League draw, taking place today at 13.00.

Teams are ranked according to their coefficient and further split into seeding groups prior to the draw.

The Europa League first qualifying round ties will be played on June 30 and July 7.
