A fundraiser by a popular local bar recently raised almost €2500 for the as-yet incurable condition.

Hugo Chetcuti and his son Luke presented Bjorn Formosa with a cheque of €2467.52 for ALS Malta, the organisation Mr Formosa founded to help improve the lives of people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

ALS is a is a progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. There is currently no known cure or treatment for the condition.

Mr Chetcuti's fundraiser saw Peter Borg and his band Red Electric perform to a packed house at Hugo's Terrace, with 50 per cent of the total net ticket sales being donated to ALS Malta.

The Hugo's Group thanked Timmy Grech and Wil Camilleri of Charles Grech and co. for supporting this event, as well as  Hugo's Terrace manager Dylan Mallia and assistant manager Steve Frendo for their organisation and perseverance, along with Raymond Azzopardi.

Mr Formosa, who lives with ALS himself, made headlines last month after donating €400,000 of his own money to ALS Malta during a live fundraising telethon on popular TV show Xarabank.
