The 2016 World Pool Champion-ships, being held in Blackpool between today and June 30, will see the participation of four Maltese teams in the senior, U-18, U-23 and Over-50 categories.

Teams from 14 countries have entered the tournament, namely England, Malta, Ireland, N. Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, South Africa, Australia, India, Mauritius, Algeria, Reunion Islands and Channel Islands.

Led by manager Carmel Cilia, the men’s team is made up of Wayne Bonnici, Antoine Aquilina, Duncan Pisani, Johann Attard, Warren Falzon, Malcolm Azzo-pardi, Miguel Falzon and Kevin Mercieca.

Scott Muscat, Steve Muscat, Gary Zammit, Rodney Montebello, Christian Mifsud and Jak Carabott will represent Malta in the U-18 competition. The team manager is Jesmond Grima.

Malta’s U-23 selection, the reigning European champions, features Dylan Cassar, Dejan Grech, Ryan Pisani and Lothar Mallia while the members of the O-50 team are Brian Grech, Tony Mifsud, Marcel Micallef, Ray Caruana, Joe Gatt and Alfred Attard.

Saviour Mifsud is in charge of the U-23 team while Brian Grech is the captain of the O-50s.

The players in the Malta Pool Association (MPA) squad will also participate in individual competitions in Blackpool and the prestigious World Masters Tournament.

The MPA also announced that Vincent Degiorgio, the association’s secretary who is the head of the contingent, is standing for the post of treasurer of the World Eight Ball Pool Federation.

Elections will be held during the World Pool Championships.
