The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra is closing this year’s indoor concert season with a grand MPO Soloists Gala Concert today, which will also serve as the culmination of the orchestra’s new vision, and a celebration of all milestones achieved throughout the year.

Under the direction of Brian Schembri, orchestra members will perform Gioachino Rossini’s La Gazza Ladra Overture, and Maurice Ravel’s Boléro Finale, and 11 of the MPO’s musicians will perform as concerto soloists, accompanied by the 80-strong orchestra, in three other interesting pieces. These are Edward Gregson’s Trombone Concerto, Gian Carlo Menotti’s Triplo Concerto a Tre, and Nino Rota’s Divertimento Concertante for Double Bass.

The concert is being held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre today at 7.30pm. Tickets at €10, €20, €30 may be obtained by e-mail on bookings@mcc.com.mt or by calling 2559 5750.
