Fourteen tons of cigarettes and 24 tons of washing powder were seized by Customs officials in May at the Malta Freeport.

The items were found to be breaching Intellectual Property Rights regulations. The containers carrying this cargo were inspected and later seized by Customs Officials, the department said in a statement this morning.

The Customs Department has been a key player in clamping down on the illegal trade breaching Intellectual Property Rights on an international level, which has been hampering the international economy.
