Besides B.Sc (Hons) courses in dental hygiene and dental technology, the University of Malta’s Faculty of Dental Surgery also offers a diploma in dental surgery assistance.

Dental assistants work closely with dentists and dental hygienists in clinics, and with the dental technologists in laboratories.

They set up dental clinics according to planned dental procedures and maintain cleanliness and sterility in the clinical environment.

They also liaise with patients before, during and after dental treatment, provide them with oral care instructions after treatment procedures, and teach them appropriate hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
