Brian Cini and Alex Borg combined perfectly yesterday to beat home side Lithuania 3-2 in another group match from the EBSA Championship for Teams, currently being played in Vilnius.

Victory means the Maltese duo had made sure of their qualification to the last 16 with a game to spare, having registered easy 5-0 wins over Poland and Albania earlier this week.

This afternoon, they play Wales in their last Group E qualifier.

Borg is also representing the country in the European Masters Tournament in Lithuania.

He was on a perfect record after three matches in his group, also having compiled a break of 114 on his way to beating Austria’s Richard Kornberger 3-0 on Monday. Yesterday, Borg beat Shaun Wilkes 3-2.

Jason Peplow is also poised to make inroads in the Masters Tournament, following three victories from as many group qualifiers.

However, Ivan Attard was yesterday swept out of contention after a 3-0 upset to Russia’s Alexey Borminskiy.
