Corinthia Hotels will be managing a luxury beachfront resort being built in Dubai, the company announced yesterday.

In terms of agreements signed with the UAE-based Meydan Group, Corinthia will also be providing technical services.

The Corinthia at Meydan Beach will incorporate a hotel and residences and is the latest in a series of mega developments undertaken by Meydan. These include large-scale mixed-use urban and leisure developments in various prime locations in Dubai.

Within the framework of a strategic relationship between Corinthia and Meydan, the Maltese company was engaged to support the design development and operate the iconic resort property being built on the site of the former Meydan Beach Club.

The resort will comprise 300 bedrooms and 60 high-end serviced apartments when it opens for business in 2019. The architecture will feature a stepped podium wrapping around lavish, landscaped pools and gardens cascading on to the beach.

It will offer extensive indoor and outdoor leisure and dining facilities, a luxury spa, a club and banqueting amenities.

A 55-storey tower comprising residential apartments, bedrooms, suites and entertainment zones will sit atop one side of the podium, offering commanding views of some of the most spectacular sights in Dubai, including the Palm Island and the Dubai Eye under development across the water.

Internationally-renowned American design professionals AE7, which have over 40 years’ experience in the Middle East, are the architects and designers.

Meydan’s board director, Mohammed Al Shehhi, noted that the group’s core business was the global management of horse racing and a large scale mixed use of real estate developments in Dubai. “With Corinthia as our hospitality partner, we continue to complement our array of capabilities in ensuring world class delivery of products and services, with our flagship beachside development as a starting point,” he said.

Corinthia chairman Alfred Pisani pointed out that this would be the first Corinthia hotel in Dubai.

“The energy, vision and quality of resources assembled for this project by Meydan, and now including Corinthia, will ensure this will be another landmark milestone for us, and for Dubai,” Mr Pisani said.

In mid-May, Corinthia announced the acquisition of the Hotel Astoria in Brussels, pledging to turn it into the city’s leading luxury hotel and branding it the Corinthia Grand Hotel Astoria. When making the announcement it said that further luxury hotel projects were expected to be announced in the coming weeks to complement the company’s growing portfolio of luxury hotels in prime locations.
