Bakers making one of the most quintessentially British delicacies have come out in support of remaining in the European Union.

The Cornish Pasty Association (CPA), which represents makers in Cornwall, said it backed a vote to stay because of the protection that the product receives under EU law.

Since 2011 for a pasty to be called Cornish it has to have been made in Cornwall, after the hearty meat and vegetable treat was awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status by the European Commission.
