The following are the top stories in the Maltese newspapers today.

Times of Malta reports Alitalia and Etihad had initially rejected a first proposal by the Maltese government to buy a stake in Air Malta. It says the memorandum of understanding signed in April is a second attempt to clinch a deal. The second story quotes experts calling for an overhaul in the way the courts deal with sexual abuse.

In-Nazzjon says that the European Parliament will be investigating the Panama Papers scandal. It also carries a picture of Nationalist Party leaders celebrating the €171,609 raised in a fund-raising marathon last night. 

L-orizzont says that St Paul's Bay tops the list of localities with the highest incidents of domestic violence. It also carries a front-page picture showing the dismantling of the Marsa power station. 

The Malta Independent reports that Mount Carmel hospital had launched an investigation after two patients had escaped from hospital. It also quotes an e-mail seen by the newspaper that a health centre doctor had resigned after getting a house call from the Office of the Prime Minister.
