Volunteers at a Valletta drop-in centre used by refugees were shocked to find a swastika scrawled onto its sign today.

The act of racist vandalism shocked Integra Foundation director Maria Pisani.

"The symbol represents an act of violence, not only towards Integra and the people using our services, but also towards humanity," she said.

Dr Pisani said that the vandals' choice of a swastika, with all its historical symbolism, "violates all that a free, democratic society stands for."

The Integra Foundation's Dinja Wahda ('One World') drop-in centre offers refugees informal educational opportunities, English language support, access to internet, assistance with CV writing, information and referral to mainstream services. The drop-in centre also includes a library.
