Golfers in Florida were stunned when an exceptionally large alligator strolled across a golf course in Buffalo Creek, Florida.

Golfer Charles Helms was enjoying an afternoon game of golf when he saw the huge reptile heading their way. He grabbed his phone, filmed it and posted the video on Facebook. The video of the enormous alligator, with an estimated length of 4.5 meters, has gone viral.

When seeing the colossal creature, Helms’ initial thought was that he was being pranked.

“I was stunned and silent,” he told ABC Action News.

According to Helms, the alligator was resting until it decided to get up and waddle towards a big lake on the course.

It’s not the first time the now famous reptile has seen strolling around the golf course, according to the staff. He’s been reportedly staying in the golf course for many years, enjoying the attention from the visitors.

“He doesn’t bother anybody and they don’t bother him, he’s like a mascot for the course,” course employee Wendy Schofield told 3 News.
