Athletics: Kendra Harrison (picture, right) equalled the second-fastest 100 metres hurdles ever run at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting, in Oregon, last weekend. The shocking Harrison, who has never made a global podium, stormed to victory in a US record 12.24 seconds. Only retired Bulgarian Yordanka Donkova has run faster, clocking a world record 12.21 seconds in 1988 and later running 12.24. The 23-year-old Harrison took 0.12 seconds off her personal best with the sterling run, the fastest in the world in almost 28 years.

Golf: The bulldozers will arrive at Wentworth next month as organisers begin their bid to restore the BMW PGA Championship venue to its former glory, European Tour supremo Keith Pelley said. The iconic layout on the outskirts of London was originally designed by Harry Colt in 1926 but has undergone a complete facelift from four-times major champion Ernie Els in the last decade. The changes have not met with unanimous approval and top players such as Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Henrik Stenson, Ian Poulter and Padraig Harrington chose to give the tour’s flagship event a miss this year for a variety of reasons.

Rugby Union: England overcame a shaky start and some horribly wayward goalkicking by flyhalf George Ford to run in five tries in a 27-13 victory over Wales in a one-off rugby test at Twickenham yesterday. England, missing players involved in Saturday’s Premiership final between Saracens and Exeter, trailed 13-10 at the break. It was a satisfying victory for England, beaten by the Welsh in the World Cup in September but who hit back with a Six Nations win en route to a grand slam, but a day to forget for George Ford who missed six of his seven shots at goal.

Basket, NBA: Klay Thompson scored 41 points to lead Golden State Warriors to a 108-101 victory over Oklahoma City Thunder at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. Thompson hit 11 of 18 from three-point range to set a new NBA play-off record. Steph Curry scored 29 to go along with 10 rebounds and nine assists. The series is now tied at 3-3 with Game 7 taking place tonight in Oakland, California.

Formula One: Red Bull completed their reconciliation with Renault yesterday by announcing that they and sister team Toro Rosso will use Formula One engines provided by the French manufacturer in the world championships of 2017 and 2018. Red Bull currently use Renault power units with Tag Heuer branding and that will stay the same, the team said. The energy drink brand’s Italy-based junior team Toro Rosso were powered by Renault last year but agreed a deal with Ferrari to use their 2015 engines this season. Red Bull said Toro Rosso could change the name of their Renault engines if they wished to do so as part of the new agreement.
