Eleven medicines, including Ventolin inhalers used by asthma sufferers, have gone down in price recently, Consumer Affairs Minister Helena Dalli said today.

Price reductions varied between 8 per cent and 67 per cent. Ventolin inhalers have had their price slashed in half, from €6.34 to €3.15.  Dermovate, a skincare ointment, has gone down in price from €6.19 to €2.05.

Pharmaceuticals used for heart conditions, urinary tract infections, fungal infections, depression and hypertension have also had their price slash. A full list of medicines subject to price reductions can be seen in the attachment posted to the bottom of this story.

The Consumer Affairs Ministry also announced a list of new generic medicines being made available in Malta for the first time. These include Lemilvo, which will now be available for €34.92. Its branded alternative costs €223.44.

Dr Dalli today toured Aurobindo Malta's high-tech facility today. The company invested €6 million locally in 2015, its managing director Frederick Schembri said, and has plans to release several new pharmaceutical products in 2017.
