For the past three weeks, I have been chasing the Attard local council to send someone to collect bad shrubs and weeds disposed from people’s gardens in black plastic bags.

These are usually left on the pavement for days straight in the scorching heat.

I was informed by the council that the fault was not theirs because this sort of waste wasn’t being accepted for disposal at Wasteserv. Usually, organic waste, such as food scraps, is collected on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays but, for some reason, this does not include bad shrubs from people’s gardens.

Residents need to phone the council every time to send a bulk truck to collect them, otherwise they are left there for weeks.

I think it is ridiculous that in an area such as Misraħ Kola, where most houses have a garden, disposed shrubs/weeds are not being collected with other organic waste.
