NASA is experimenting with a new fabric that may be a cheaper and safer option for housing crews during long stays in space.

The new fabric  is inflatable and eventually expands to the size of a small bedroom.

It could be a cheaper and safer option to current metal habitats.

This prototype will stay in space for two years.
