A record €1.88 million were raised in the 12th Puttinu Cares football and volleyball marathon, held over the weekend.

The 60-hour marathon came to a close with celebrations at the Marsa ground.

Apart from the sports, the marathon included round-the-clock entertainment.

The funds will be used for the provision of apartments to house cancer patients who are receiving treatment in London, as well as their relatives.

On average, 30 young Maltese patients travel to the UK for diagnosis or treatment each month.
